If being an excellent educator starts with caring and preparation, we should intentionally plan activities and routines that foster relationships and that demonstrate our care for our students.

As part of your preparation with us, we will explore how to build a faith-based approach to classroom and behavioral management.  During your first year in teaching, you will quickly discover that many students come from broken families and homes in which positive role models are few.

Not surprisingly, as children grow within these environments, they will exhibit atypical behavioral and low social skills across all settings, including the classroom. Your success at classroom and behavioral management depends upon your understanding of the foundation of human behavior development, its origins, and its ultimate purpose. Now is the time to create a relationship-based approach to classroom and behavioral management that will guide your response to disruptive student behaviors. To do so, ask yourself the following questions: In what ways does family life and social environments affect student learning and behavior? In what ways does a biblical understanding of human behavior impact my development of classroom management and behavioral intervention plans?

So what makes for an effective high-functioning classroom?  The are 2 critical elements.

  • Deep Personal Connections
  • Mutual Respect

So how do you create these as fast as possible with each student?

Through Rituals – consistent processes and procedures that encourage trust.

Through Agreement – making a commitment to treat each other with mutual respect
